The Benefits of Carrying your Baby

Carrying Your Baby

One of the most expensive purchases you are likely to make for your baby is a pram. While prams or strollers are useful for travel, carrying your baby in your arms, a sling or carrier is really good for your baby!

Here are some reasons why carrying your baby is good for them:

  • When carrying your baby you are stimulating their vestibular system with movement. The three-dimensional movement of your body provides input to this system, which activates muscle tone and balance reactions. In the long-term, carrying your baby  results in better motor development.
  • The vestibular system also plays a role in  calming your baby. By holding, rocking and carrying your baby, you soothe him when he is fractious or irritable.
  • Babies love close proximity to their parents and carrying your baby is very beneficial on an emotional level. When your baby is in your arms, he will feel secure. You can also pick up on his signals more easily. Responding to your baby’s demands reinforces that his needs are important, contributing to a secure little one. From your arms, your little one can gauge your reaction to new situations and learns about human interaction too.

You can see how wonderfully beneficial carrying your baby is. It is worth investing in a sling or upright carrier for convenience and to give you a free hand when carrying your little one.
